I love Saturdays

We are having such a nice, lazy day today. Sometimes we just don't do anything on Saturdays. I got to sleep until 8 am! of course, Ben was in the bed with me since about 3:30 am, but still. the kids grazed thru breakfast, and watched cartoons. The dogs were able to stay outside for quite a while. Amanda did her very few chores right away and now at 1:05, Caitlyn is sleeping, Ben is watching an old Barney video for the 100th time downstairs while mom grades papers, Amanda is playing on the wii and I am contemplating a nap even though I have laundry to get started.

Ben is wearing underwear today. Aunt Debbie bought him a pair of train underwear for Christmas which he found last night and was thrilled. He has gone potty twice and been dry for quite a while, maybe this is the turning point. One can only hope.

I think I'll go take that nap now.......

We are sick

Sigh. Every year it seems in January or February we get REALLY sick. Ben has had the stomach flu for 2 days now. He has never thrown up before so it really freaks him out and Amanda is so disturbed by vomit, she screams hysterically and runs. I woke up this morning with an eye so swollen and matted shut I can hardly see. I had left over drops from Caitlyn last October that I have been using today, but it doesn't seem to be helping so I am off to the Dr. tomorrow. And on top of being sick, we are supposed to get some really bad weather tomorrow. I hate winter.

Ben

I never wanted a boy. What did I know about being a boy? I mean really, how was I going to teach him the boy stuff? Then I got Ben. He was this tiny little baby who looked like a little old man. I love this boy so much. He is charming and funny and imaginitive, he is the perfect son for me. He is currently obsessed with trains, it is hilarious! I look forward to seeing how this little man grows up.

Amanda

What can I say about this girl? Sigh. Every day seems to be a war of wills with this child. At 2 she was my little blonde cherub, by 4 she was willful and stubborn. What happened to my sunny funny little girl? She turned into this moody, willful, oppositional, dare I say it....pre-teen! She is good at so many things, she loves arts and crafts. the girl would cut and color and glitter all day. I love this wild child and watching her grow overwhelms and humbles me.

Becoming an activist.....

I was not my ususal self yesterday. I had quite the bee in my bonnet about the Consumer Safety Protections Improvement Act. I was irate because from all my reading and research, I found out it included childrens clothing from resale shops. I have a favorite resale shop where i get most of the kids clothes and i have this idea for a clothing bank to help foster parents. I was emailing state representatives, and anyone i could think of to voice my opinion. this is very unlike me to get so worked up to actually do something. i did read today that they have given resale shops an exemption. there is more to it that annoys me but for now we'll see where they go with it. I was a woman with a cause.

Things I want to remember

Ok, so I'm telling my friend at work about creating this blog and she gave me a great idea. She keeps a notebook of things that happen on a day to day basis with her kids that she wants to remember as they grow up. I used to keep a running diary of sorts when Ben was a baby about miscellaneous things like Dr. visits and his milestones, etc. That stopped when Caitlyn came along 18 months later. I just don't seem to have the time. But I figure if I have time to sit down every night and log into my computer, I have time to jot down a few things about my kids to remember when I'm old and gray. ok who am I kidding, there are things I can't remember now.

today I just want to say, isn't that little girl cute?

And so we begin..

I thought I would give this blogging thing a try. Like I have time to blog but perhaps I will have some random thoughts and of course pictures of the flowers in my garden(and maybe a grub or two)
